Monson

During Irene's residency in Monson Maine she sought to synthesize nature and the indexicality of photography. With this iteration of Mamiye's Homage series she experiments with the naturalistic elements rather than their digital simulation. Living in a dense urban environment much of what Mamiye experiences is, as Jean Baudrillard lays out in his book Simulation and Simulacra, a simulation of nature. The setting of the studio overlooking lake Hebron gave Mamiye the space to bring tactility and reflection into the process. She captured the ephemerality of a moment using natural light as a tool, Incorporating the cast shadows in the final collage.
