In the ongoing Ciphers series, laser-cut and CNC-milled pieces of acrylic operate as proxy lenses or screens. Each work contains its own internal logic, code, or encryption key. The extrusions selectively obfuscate or accentuate different aspects of the labyrinthian composition. As images are doctored in Photoshop to change a narrative or simply to heighten drama, the extrusions in each Cipheralso operate as real-world filters. The plexiglass alludes to the material grammar of the screen, while etched geometric patterns refer to the phenomenon of jpeg artifacting, an index of digital migration.
